Luke Sullivan set the WIAA State Discus Record with a throw of 193'3" at the 1993 WIAA State Track and Field meet. The record still holds up today, 20 years later. Luke went on to be a 4 time All-American at UCLA and since has gone on to a share his expertise with hundreds of throwers at his Annual Clinic here in Wisconsin.
Luke now coaches in Phoenix, Arizona...I can't wait to have him back in Madison!

John Godina's UPCOMING Throws Clinics
PHASE 1 - Olympic Lifting Clinc : February 23

I recently had the opportunity to attend John Godina's Phase II Coaches Course. It was a great day of learning about advanced rotational concepts in the throws. Lots of different Drills to correct common errors in the Rotational Shot and Discus.
I highly recommend Coaches attend his Phase I Course and Phase II Course if you have the opportunity.
And if athletes have the chance to attend his Phase I, Phase II Athlete Clinic or a World Throws Center Camp, I highly encourage you to sign up.
Advanced Rotational athlete's could try this drill it really forces you to work on staying on the right in the middle and not allowing any weight to shift to the left because you are doing an extra 180 turn at wheel past Power Position. Great Drill - very difficult - beginners beware...advanced throwers see if you have what it takes to match John's movement.

Westside Track Club and ROTARY INTERNATIONAL will be hosting a track meet for youth on
Also the Wisconsin Track Club will be hosting its final meet of its summer series on Thursday evening July 12 - 5pm at the UW McClimon Track/Soccer Complex. Registration is on site the day of the event beginning at 5pm and the Cost is $5. Athletes under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed to compete.

MTC sweeps MG INVITE THROWS
Keke Burks and Jessi Ford show SUPERMAN a thing or two about what they wear under their warm-ups.
It was a good showing for MADISON THROWS CLUB at the 2012 editions of the Monona Grove Invitational. In Friday night's Boys Meet Theron Baumann swept both throwing events.

Saturday morning gave the MTC girls their chance to shine. KeKe Burks won the Shot Put with a season best throw of 39'0.5". Corinne Franz won the Discus with a throw of 135'. Many MTC athletes posted strong performances to place in the top 8, Including sweeping the top 5 spots in the Girls Discus and 4 out of 5 of the top spots in Girls Shot. Great Job MTC!

2012 West Relays: Baumann & Zahn Battle
The 2012 Madison West Relays Class B meet offered a second playground for Madison Throws Club Throwers' Jason Zahn (sr) Grafton and Theron Baumann (sr) Monona Grove. There Battle at the Nelson Daniels Relays put them on top of the State honor roll list and this past Saturday offered up more of the same. Jason threw 58' 10.5" to capture 2nd place while Theron won the meet with a toss of 59'8.75". Theron's throw tied the B meet record set by Brodhead's A.J. Curtis in 2005.
I suspect we could be hearing more from these 2 throwers at the TFA meet and beyond.
Video of their 6 throws from the meet...and yes those are corn rows on Theron, I've threatened him with a haircut to no avail.
