ROTATIONAL SHOT PUT DRILLS you can be doing right now.

Its snowing again here in Wisconsin.  But there are plenty of drills rotational throwers can be working indoors even if you don't have space to throw... here are 5 groups of drills you can incorporate into your preseason routine...

Leonovicz and Ellingson GO BIG in SHOT PUT!

Sun Prairie High School hosted an Invite Friday, April 22 and two Madison Throws Club throwers decided to have the best throws of their Shot Put careers.  Jack Leonovicz (SR.) Brookfield East, moved his P.R. out to 58'1".  Landon Ellingson, (SR.) Jefferson, had a previous p.r. of 58' 0", finally caught the throw he had been waiting for ... 61'10.5".

Keep up the good work boys, don't be done yet!

Good Throws at WTFA closeout WI indoor season.

Some strong performances at the WTFA Indoor Championship meet to close out the indoor portion of the Wisconsin Prep TRACK AND FIELD SEASON.
Some strong throws, particularly in the girls competition, moved athletes on to the ALL-TIME top 50 performance list!  Josie Schaefer 45'8", Ella Schultz 44'4", and Erin Dunning 43'4" finished 1-2-3.
Shaefer's throw is tied for 21st All-Time in WI.  Schultz' throw moves her from 37th to 35th. Dunning has been hovering around her season best from last year of 43'11.5" which stands at 43rd all-time.

THE BEST GIRLS IN WISCONSIN PREP THROWS HISTORY

There is a rich high school Track and Field tradition in the state of Wisconsin especially in the SHOT PUT and DISCUS throwing events.
So who are the best WI prep girls throwers of all time?  Only 18 girls in state history are on both the current all-time lists.  Some very special performances over recent years have altered the girls history books in a big way.  15 of the 18 who made the list, competed since 2002, nearly wiping out what the history books looked like prior to 2000.
Here is how the girl throwers who appear on both the SHOT PUT top 50 list and the DISCUS top 50 list look when I gave them a ranking based on their composite shot put and discus ranking:

MTC start the High School season with BIG THROWS

A huge thank you to the numerous athletes that committed to working hard this off-season and allowing Madison Throws Club to guide their training in the circle this past summer, fall, and winter.
Now it is time to compete.  The 2015 Wisconsin high school season has begun and its a 12 week journey of adjustments and continued growth with your high school coaches.  Best of luck to everyone, keep me posted on P.R.s!

Some throwers wasted no time to allow their hard work to shine through.  2 junior girls started the season with BIG THROWS.  Harford's Samantha Noennig and Ashwaubenon's Kristine Lindow both have set new P.R.'s at early indoor meets.  On Saturday, March 21, Noennig threw 45'4" at the Invite held at Carthage college.  Her throw is the 24th best in Wisconsin prep history.  Lindow wasted no time going 42'11" for a new P.R. in the shot put a few days later.

The Sam and Kris rank 1st and 2nd in the state.   Karen Wethal and Holly Houston out to strong starts as well, both with early season P.R.'s.   Keep track of the Girls STATE HONOR ROLL at Dave Figi's fantastic site covering Wisconsin Prep Girls Track and Field!  www.wisconsintrackonline.com

Know your Glide SHOT PUT history

Make sure you know your glide shot put history.  When Parry O'Brien turned his back to the toe board in the '56 Olympics it changed everything. It's important to find out why we do things and how we can continue to refine them.
Enjoy!

p.s. That is Bruce Jenner doing the interview.  Yes, before the Kardashians and before all that surgery messed up his face.

So many good throws out there, so many good videos out there...
I have been adding THROWING videos to my YouTube channel for the past 4 years...and counting...
I hope that you find some videos of throws that will help you with your own throws.
I think it is so important to take advantage of watching good technique, analyzing your own, and getting out there and throwing some more.

I will update this every summer.
I hope it inspires new throwers to work hard and dream of making the list!

HOFFA wins U.S. Olympic Trials

Reece Hoffa, Ryan Whiting and Christian Cantwell will be representing the U.S. in the 2012 Olympic Games in London this August. Hoffa's throw of 72-2.25 is the best throw in the world this year. The U.S. has dominated the world standings in the Shot Put for several nearly a decade but have no Olympic Gold medals to show for it...will this year be the year the american's can change who stands on top of the podium.

MTC Throwers dominate the TOP of the HONOR ROLL

Congratulations to all of the Madison Throws Club throwers who have gotten off to white hot starts to the 2012 season. Many MTCers have marks that put them at or near the top of the State Honor Roll lists for both boys and girls - shot and discus.
Remember its early and hard work is needed to maintain and improve upon these numbers.
